Our Beliefs

In April 2004 a handful of people approached Minister Smitherman and inquired if she would be interested in holding a Bible Class for them. After praying about this request Minister Smitherman received confirmation and agreed to teach bible classes but only until the members found a church home in which they felt comfortable. On the third Sunday April 18,2004, after the closing of the church that several members were attending, Minister Smitherman began holding a Sunday Morning Bible Study in her home there were in the beginning 7 people attending these gatherings.

The group began to grow and by the end June of 2004 there were now twelve (12) members and some visitors on a regular basis, to accommodate the group, the Bible Study was moved to the home of Minister Donnetta Smitherman on East Pierce Street in McAlester. In February 2005 Evangelist Ester Holzendorf offered the group the use of a small house she owned on East Cherokee street in McAlester Ok.

It was soon decided that the group wanted to organize the Bible Study into a Church assembly. Minister Smitherman went before the Lord about this and He gave her the Name Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center. This was brought to the members and all agreed with what the Lord had ordained.

Three years after its inception, on April 1, 2007 Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center was incorporated through the State of Oklahoma and gained recognition as a viable church with seventeen (17) members. Pastor Smitherman understanding the Biblical principles of authority, began to seek the Lord about a spiritual covering for Tabernacle of Praise and in May 2009 the Lord led her to the Apostleship ministry of Apostle Jerry Howard and the “Ekklesia Fellowship”. After meeting with Apostle Howard and having several conversations and receiving his teaching on the role of the Apostle Tabernacle of Praise came under the cover of the Apostle June 9, 2009.

As more people began to come to the “little house” it became evident that the accommodations were too small, and the members began to seek out a larger building. In July 2008 the church secured a space in a local store front located at 227 East Chickasaw and moved with thirty (30) members. On March 30, 2012 the Lord blessed us with our current location at 1121 E. Chickasaw. We moved in and conducted our first service the First Sunday of April 2012.

Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center is a Five-fold ministry Church as described in Ephesians 4:11-13.
